چکیده

Dynamo activity caused by waves in a rotating magneto-plasma is investigated. In astrophysical environments such as accretion disks and at sufficiently small spatial scales, the Hall effect is likely to play an important role. It is shown that a combination of the Coriolis force and Hall effect can produce a finite α-effect by generating net helicity in the small scales. The shear/ion-cyclotron normal mode of the Hall plasma is the dominant contributor to the dynamo action for short scale motions. Approaching a realistic force balance in geodynamo simulations.

Earth sustains its magnetic field by a dynamo process driven by convection in the liquid outer core. Geodynamo simulations have been successful in reproducing many observed properties of the geomagnetic field. However, although theoretical considerations suggest that flow in the core is governed by a balance between Lorentz force, rotational force, and buoyancy (called MAC balance for Magnetic,...

The competition between Lorentz and Coriolis forces in planetary dynamos

Fluid motions within planetary cores generate magnetic fields through dynamo action. These core processes are driven by thermo-compositional convection subject to the competing influences of rotation, which tends to organize the flow into axial columns, and the Lorentz force, which tends to inhibit the relative movement of the magnetic field and the fluid. It is often argued that these forces a...

Dispersive tsunami waves in the ocean: Model equations and sensitivity to dispersion and Coriolis effects

We derive fully nonlinear, weakly dispersive model equations for propagation of surface gravity waves in a shallow, homogeneous ocean of variable depth on the surface of a rotating sphere. A numerical model is developed for the weakly nonlinear version of the model based on a combined finite-volume and finitedifference method with a fourth-order MUSCL-TVD scheme in space and a third-order SSP R...

Large-scale magnetic field generation by α-effect driven by collective neutrino-plasma interaction

We suggest a new mechanism for generation of large-scale magnetic field in the hot plasma of early universe which is based on the parity violation in weak interactions and depends neither on helicity of matter turbulence resulting in the standard α-effect nor on general rotation. The mechanism can result in a self-excitation of an (almost) uniform cosmological magnetic field. The large-scale ma...
